Gala Launching of FLAGGSHIP
The completion, and April launching, of our Joel White designed 'Cats Paw' dinghy marked another milestone in the history of the CRMC. The 'Cats Paw' is based on a very successful N.G. Herreshoff design for the lifeboat of the 1899 and 1901 America’s cup defender, Colombia. FLAGGSHIP’s construction was started by the late Ted Flagg, an original CRMC board member, and was completed by his sons Charlie Flagg and Don Flagg, Graham Campbell, Ted's grandsons and various students over the past few years in our Carvel Planking Techniques course. As you can see, she is a beauty and shows the fine design and workmanship represented in a traditionally built wooden boat. The launching on a beautiful spring day was an opportunity to bring the community together for some fun and good cheer aided by traditional sea chanteys and original songs performed by Justin Flagg and Matt Gelfer.
We are having FLAGGSHIP serve as the ‘flagship’ of our long planned boat livery. Temporarily berthed at our Fireplace Boat Basin facility at the end of Bay Lane, Brookhaven, she is now available for members to take out for a row! Contact us to make arrangements.

The nine graduates of this past winter's Youth Kayak Building Program proudly show of their handiwork. They represent the 32nd through 40th middle school students to have completed boats since the programs inception in 2004. Each worked with an adult partner over 13 Saturday Mornings to build their boats.
